Welcome to the Hackney Pensions site administered by the London Pensions Fund Authority. The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is a statutory, funded pension scheme. As such it is very secure because its benefits are defined and set out in law. The LGPS is contracted-out of the State Second Pension (S2P) and must, in general, provide benefits at least as good as most members would have received had they been members of S2P. The LGPS is a national scheme with each administering authority, county councils and London boroughs for example, have their own pension fund and membership. Hackney's own fund membership at 31st March 2007 was over 15,600 which included some 4,600 active members, 5,800 pensioners and 5,200 deferred pensioners. The administration of Hackney pensions is undertaken by the LPFA and has been since 2003. Work involves the handling of employees' and pensioners' records in respect of all issues relating to their membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (except Funding). All work must be undertaken in line with the relevant legislation and is monitored to ensure compliance with service standards and Council policy. |
